Jennifer Frith, Artist & Illustrator

I believe that you matter.

. . .

Hi! I'm Jennifer Frith! You're welcome to call me by my childhood nickname, Jenny.

I'm a mom, wife, artist, animal lover, self-admitted nerd, hopeless romantic, and follower of Jesus.

I sketchbook, illustrate children's books, and try to make the world a brighter place with my artwork.

I encourage other busy, kindhearted creatives to make art for themselves and the world too.

Welcome to my blog! Kick off your shoes and stay for a little while.

Creativity hack:  Buy yourself a kitchen timer.⏰ One thing I'm learning about creative people is that we often process or interpret time differently than others.  We can lose ourselves in what we're doing; and, for as much as we want to accomplish, we can find ourselves frozen by dizzy, disorganized, overwhelming messes.
.
A kitchen timer helps in 3 ways:

1)  It makes time a visual concept. For right-brain people, digital time tracking doesn't really work for our wiring.  Analog clocks establish time as a "real" tangible thing and help keep us on task.
.
2) Research has shown that the more restrictions we have placed on us, the more those limitations breed creativity. Time goals provide a little bit of self-imposed pressure, enough to create a motivating environment.
.
3) Goals are less overwhelming when you chunk them down into smaller time-bound tasks.  Paperwork is my nemesis (ugh, paperwork 😑👎), but if I set a timer for 20 minutes, I'm more likely to tackle the pile of bills on my kitchen counter.  This way I can move on and get back to the more exciting stuff in my life, like painting animals in my sketchbook!
.
My new kitchen timer is my saving grace. ($20 on Amazon.🙌) How do you manage your time? ⏰❤

Earlier this month, we adopted two sweet male rats for my daughter. They are remarkably intelligent, gentle, and affectionate. It's adorable watching them play-wrestle and box each other. 🐁❤ I'm drawing one in my totem sketchbook.

Have you ever had a pet rat? What's the most interesting pet you've had? 🐀 #jennysanimaltotems

🎨🌈 What a gift it is to be able to express yourself. Hope you all make some time for creating this week. .

The best art is the kind that makes you feel something. This is my favorite artist, John William Waterhouse. 1849-1917. His work makes me feel magic, mystery, and romance.
Who is your favorite artist from the past?
journal pages from the archives ~ I love happy, waddly ducks. Wishing you as much joy this week as they bring me. 💛
Drawing some spirngtime for these cold, February days. 🌿 What's your favorite flower? Mine are tulips.⚘
My brother called me up.  Every now and then we talk about deep, inspirational things.
.
He is very outgoing and can strike up a conversation with anybody.  He told me how he just bumped into an artist at a pizza pub and had a 45 minute conversation with him.
.
In their conversation, my brother took away some cool gems of wisdom and encouraged me with this:  people might not recognize or remember your name, but when they see your work or your art, they'll see your spirit... and that's 1000 times more important. ❤
.
All of *this*... all of the striving, all of the tangible (titles, accomplishments, recognition, social media likes... especially social media likes) is so temporary.
.
Love big.  That stuff is eternal.
.
"Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath." - Psalm 35

Love you, @jwar2428.

Who inspires you?
When people see your spirit, what do they see?
I had the privilege of seeing @johncmaxwell speak a few months ago, *plus * I got to sneak in a #gesturesketch of him in my workbook. 😊 What a rare honor to hear him in person. I'm excited to read his newly released book on leadership. ❤
