Brief Blogging Break

Hi dear friends.

A very-much loved member of my family is currently in the hospital.

I'll be taking a blogging break to sort out my thoughts and make an out-of-state visit.

I should be back with the blog by next Friday.

I covet your prayers today.

Journal Pages

Last week, I wasn't feeling very inspired as I prepped my journal pages for the week ahead.

I just kinda felt "Eh" that day.

I used a stamp, a strip of scrapbook paper, washi-tape, and some stickers.

(Can you tell by the ripped page & sloppy glue job? ...I was totally not feeling it.)

I closed the journal and walked away.

As the week went on, though, I began filling in the dates like I normally do.  I decided to use colored pencils instead of watercolor to sketch in some doodles.  It was a super-small change, but it gave me the tiniest extra spark.

I like how the pages turned out.

Sometimes making a simple change can be a really refreshing recharge.

Do you ever feel "eh" with your outlet?

Happy Monday to you guys. :)

Lovely Blogs

What a sweet surprise!  My blogger friend Rita Barton recently awarded me with a Lovely Blog award.  Rita is an artist with an adventurous spirit and shares pictures of her life along the seaside (I can smell the salt air in her photos).  She also posts yummy, healthy recipes & pictures of her artwork.  I totally agree with her -"meeting" friends through blogging is such a cool gift!   Thank you, Rita.

I'm supposed to share 7 little known things about myself & then share 7 of my favorite bloggers.

Here we go:
  1. My great great Uncle was the Governor of Maryland.  Check out his sweet top hat.
  2. I so get a kick out of learning my family's history.  I inherited tin photos of my ancestors, a giant, 100-year old family Bible, and a letter from Abe Lincoln's son that my grandmother kept in a tiny metal box.
  3. Other than Antiques Roadshow, Downton Abbey, & the NFL, I really don't watch much TV.  Too antsy to sit in one spot for long.
  4. I met the love of my life at a tailgate party. :)
  5. I loved Physics & Biology in school.  Bill Nye the Science Guy & Mr. Wizard were my favorite shows as a kid.
  6. I wanted to become a Veterinarian too.
  7. I seriously want a pet skunk.

And here are 7 of my favorite blogs.  Hope they inspire you too!
(Note:  I hate being exclusive with this.  Makes me feel icky.  I'll be "sprinkling" some of my favorite blogs in upcoming posts.  In the meantime, check out the "Inspiring Artists" link in the sidebar.)
  1. Serena Lewis at Art by Serena Lewis.  Serena notes in her blog that she doesn't do blog awards, but I hope you'll still take a look at her work.  She is a naturally-gifted, deeply compassionate artist living in Australia.  She has a huge heart for animals too.
  2. Ashley Ann Campbell from Under The Sycamore.  Love her crafts & photos from her day-to-day family life.  I've been completely wrapped up in her recent adoption story.
  3. Isabel March from Isabel March Photography.  I found out about Isabel when my hubby & I were looking for a engagement photographer.  She is absolutely fun, and she totally draws that out in others.  I love her sassy confidence.  If you are in the Philly, PA area & are looking for a wedding photographer, take a peek!
  4. Vicky Williamson.  Vicky's watercolor sketches are always inspiring.  She works on her sketchbooks & journals and shares them frequently on her blog.
  5. Cris, Artist in Oregon.  Cris is another watercolor artist I like.  Her posts make me want to live on a farm and have lots of ducks in my backyard too.
  6. Pat Elliot.  Pat is an artist from England.  Love that she plays in different mediums.
  7. Belovedbomber.  You know what?  I'm not certain of her real name. I call her BB.  She writes about uplifting topics.  Her posts are refreshing and encouraging.

Do you have a blog?   I'd love to check it out!

I'm thrilled to be working on a new Pet Portrait.  :)

Makes me so happy to "meet" the owners
and learn the stories of their little loved ones.

Here is a beginning sketch of Dash the Boston Terrier, in charcoal.

I'll be working on this little guy over the next few days.

Thank you, India, for allowing me the opportunity. xoxo

Gratitude Journal - Cold Medicine

It's that time of year again.
I got my first kick-in-the-pants cold last week.

It's clearing up pretty quickly, but the first few days were a doozy.
I was miserable.

As I laid in bed, I tried thinking of all the "wonderful" things I could be thankful for.

1)  Cherry flavored cold medicine.
2)  I Love Lucy DVDs that my sister bought me last year.
3)  But thinking a little bit harder ....  it's my husband.

Now, he's my best friend & sweetheart, but he's also a "tough military man".  When it comes to pain, there's definitely an unspoken, no-whining, pee-on-it-and-walk-away policy in our household (I'm kidding about the peeing thing.)  So it always surprises me when I'm sick.  He gets remarkably sweet and protective of me, running to get me water and medicine, checking in to see if I need anything.

Go figure.  I love it about him.  I should get the sniffles more often.  :)

What lifts your spirits when you're sick?

Sketchbook Journal - September

My pages for last week.

Filled in with watercolor, washi tape,
little scraps of paper, and salmon stickers.

Now it's time for some Sudafed.
Gotta get rid of these sniffles!

PS.  Have you heard of Fitocracy?  I love this site!  Was bummed I couldn't "level up" with my cold.

I saw that Danny Gregory posted this clip over at the Everyday Matters Facebook group.

A fascinating reminder to be grateful for the little things.

A Puppy & Some Pencils

I pulled out my pencils and art-pad and started working on this puppy a few days ago.
I've missed using pencils - I can curl up in bed & just draw to my heart's content.
I'm able to take it with me to work too and sneak in a few minutes of drawing on my lunch break.

It really does relax my mind.

What creative outlet soothes your soul the most?

Art Inspiration - Classic Disney

"Fantasia" was my absolutely favorite movie when I was girl.

Disney's Fantasia - Pastoral Scene

Still makes my heart well up with wonder.
Love those sweet little unicorns!
